Regulators in New York have reached a settlement with Michigan cannabis business Variscite NY One, notably permitting marijuana sales in the Finger Lakes region. The Michigan-based business had previously sued New York after being denied a cannabis retail license. The decision by the Cannabis Control Board must first be approved by a federal judge. If approved, restrictions will be lifted on issuing Conditional Adult-Use Retail Dispensary licenses to businesses in the Finger Lakes region, including Variscite NY One, paving the way for more locations to open. Previously, marijuana retail licenses were only awarded to individuals previously convicted of a marijuana offense or a family member of someone who had.
