Lawmakers in the UK are debating the possibility of relaxing restrictions on psychedelics, including psilocybin, amid growing interest in their potential therapeutic benefits. MP Charlotte Nichols has called for the rescheduling of psilocybin, arguing that the current restrictions on research are slowing scientific progress. Nichols argues that removing restrictions would enable more study into treatments for conditions like SUDs and support campaigns by several organizations. The UK is not alone in its renewed interest in psychedelics, with Minnesota forming a Psychedelic Medicine Task Force, and Colorado and Oregon decriminalizing the use of psychedelics. The University of Exeter has also created one of the world’s first postgraduate qualifications on psychedelics, highlighting growing scientific interest in this area.
