Why it matters: This study by DELIC Labs seeks to understand the science behind cannabis consumption, specifically focusing on the impact of the size of ground cannabis flower in joints on consumer experience. Understanding this can lead to improved methods of consumption and dosing for both recreational and medical cannabis users.

What they are saying: The researchers found that smaller particle sizes (1mm) in the ground cannabis flower led to more potent puffs and higher average THC content per puff compared to larger particle sizes (3mm and 5mm). However, 5mm joints resulted in longer-lasting joints. For CBD joints, researchers found that they delivered a higher amount of cannabinoid per puff compared to THC joints. These findings are intriguing to the researchers and warrant further investigation.

The big picture: With the majority of global cannabis consumers preferring joints as their method of consumption, understanding the impact of particle size on the quantity of cannabinoids delivered through smoking is crucial. This research can inform the development of improved joint architecture and dosing methods for medical cannabis patients, ensuring better control and consistency in their cannabis use.

What to watch: Further research is needed to investigate other factors related to cannabis consumption, such as side stream, aerosol particle size, exhaust temperature, and particles beyond cannabinoids and terpenes. Additionally, comparing the findings of this study to infused joints and cannabis mixed with tobacco would provide additional insights into the effects of different consumption methods.

My take: This study sheds light on the importance of considering the size of ground cannabis flower in joints when it comes to the potency and duration of cannabis consumption. The findings highlight the need for more research in this area to improve the consumer experience and dosing control, especially in the medical cannabis field. Further exploration of other factors and consumption methods will provide a more comprehensive understanding of cannabis consumption and its effects.
