Why it matters:
A newly published survey from researchers at Kent State University explored whether the use of CBD and THC can enhance exercise recovery. The study aimed to understand if individuals who regularly use cannabis and exercise believe that cannabis aids in recovery. The findings have implications for the cannabis industry, as well as professional sports leagues that have adjusted their drug policies regarding marijuana use.

What they are saying:
The survey included 111 participants who reported regularly using cannabis and currently exercising. The majority of participants engaged in both aerobic and resistance exercise. The results showed that 93% of participants believed CBD use helps with exercise recovery, while 87% believed the same for THC use. The study concluded that more data is needed to understand the role of cannabis in exercise recovery.

The big picture:
Cannabis use has become more widespread in the United States, both medically and recreationally. Many individuals, including world-class athletes such as NBA star Kevin Durant, have turned to cannabis for its potential benefits in exercise recovery. Changes in laws and policies surrounding marijuana use have also influenced perceptions and acceptance of its use in sports.

What to watch:
As more research is conducted on the effects of CBD and THC in exercise recovery, it will be important to observe how the findings impact the cannabis industry and professional sports leagues. The acceptance and use of cannabis in these sectors could continue to grow if evidence supports its benefits.

My take:
The survey highlights the growing interest in cannabis for exercise recovery and the potential benefits that individuals perceive. While more research is needed, it is clear that many people who regularly use cannabis and exercise believe it aids in their recovery process. As attitudes and policies surrounding marijuana continue to evolve, it will be interesting to see if cannabis becomes more widely accepted and utilized in the realm of exercise and sports.
